Breaking into the industry
My project with Greater Culture CrossFit (GCC) was the first official production under the name Pruitt Visuals. It was my chance to prove that I can handle larger projects at a higher level.
I first pitched the idea to Brad (GCC’s Owner) on a plane ride home as we happened to be sitting beside each other and headed to the same destination. A few weeks later we hopped on an initial call to see what GCC needed most and what sort of deliverables would be most impactful. Brad had a very good handle on their social media channels already but he agreed that a Brand Story video would allow his members to learn more about the vision for their gym as well as allowing potential new members to understand the welcoming culture and environment at GCC.
I was super excited to shoot with GCC and to get to interact with their members during 2 full speec Cross Fit classes! We got the entire video shot in a half day. It was a solo production and I had to be very efficient with my gear and my schedule.
What went well?
I was really able to capture the gym’s character and tone through a variety of hand held, gimbal and tripod shots. I was working with rental gear and I think I did a good job practicing in my Pre-pro days so that the gear wouldn’t be holding me back in my creativity.
What did not go well?
The audio/microphone system I was using did not work in the exact way I wanted it to and I missed out on the audio from the classes. Luckily I didn’t need it in the final video as most of the audio was coming from an interview but it was an issue that I would definitely need to resolve before any other shoots.
The lesson I took from this is that Closed mouths don’t get fed. If I had slept on the plane home or I hadn’t reached out again to schedule a meeting this shoot would have never happened. I had to be intentional about bringing the work to my company but once I did it was so much fun and very fulfilling.
Much more to come! Get 1% Better every day.
